Privacy Policy

This site is a personal website. It has no accounts, no shop, no newsletter, no analytics and no advertising. The only way it collects personal data is if you choose to write to me through the contact form. This page explains what happens to that data, and what rights you have under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Who is responsible

The data controller for this website is Jakup Andrias Knudsen (“JAK the Geeker”), a private individual based in Denmark.

You can reach me at contact@jakthegeeker.com about anything on this page. There is no separate Data Protection Officer — the site is small enough that it does not need one, and it is me either way.

What I collect, and why

The contact form

When you submit the form on the front page, the following is sent to my mailbox:

  • the name you type in;
  • your email address, so I can reply;
  • your message, and whatever you choose to put in it;
  • your IP address and the time you submitted, which are added automatically to help me deal with spam and abuse.

Nothing is stored in a database on the website — the submission is turned into an email and sent on. Legal basis: my legitimate interest in answering people who contact me and in keeping the form from being abused (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). If you write about a possible job or collaboration, the exchange may also be covered by Article 6(1)(b), steps taken at your request before entering an agreement.

Please don't send sensitive personal data (health, religion, political views, and so on) through the form. It's an ordinary email inbox, not a secure channel.

Spam protection

The form uses a hidden field that people never see, plus a signed timestamp that has to be a few seconds old. Both live in the page itself for the length of your visit; neither stores anything on your device and neither tries to identify you. There is no CAPTCHA and no third-party bot service.

Server logs

The site is hosted by Simply.com, which — like every web host — keeps ordinary server logs of requests: IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser's user-agent string. These are part of running and securing a server, they are not used to build a profile of you, and I don't read them for anything other than troubleshooting. They are kept by the host for a limited period and then removed. Legal basis: legitimate interest in operating and securing the site (Article 6(1)(f)).

Cookies

This site sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. The details, and what that means, are on the cookie policy.

Who else sees your data

Simply.com A/S, a Danish hosting provider, hosts the website and the mailbox that contact form messages are delivered to. They act as my data processor and only handle the data in order to provide that service.

That's the whole list. I don't sell personal data, I don't share it with advertisers, and I don't hand it to anyone else unless I'm legally required to.

Transfers outside the EU/EEA

None. The site and the mailbox are hosted in the EU, the fonts and scripts the site uses are served from this domain rather than from a third-party network, and there are no analytics or embedded content pulling in data from elsewhere.

How long it is kept

Messages stay in my mailbox for as long as the conversation is useful — and at most 12 months after our exchange ends, unless there's a concrete reason to keep it longer (an ongoing project, or something I'm required to keep for accounting or legal reasons). After that it's deleted. If you'd like your message deleted sooner, just ask.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask me to:

  • Access — tell you what personal data of yours I hold, and give you a copy.
  • Rectify — correct anything that's wrong or incomplete.
  • Erase — delete your data, where I have no good reason to keep it.
  • Restrict — pause my use of it while something is being sorted out.
  • Object — object to processing I base on legitimate interest, including this one.
  • Port — receive your data in a common, machine-readable format.

There's no automated decision-making or profiling here, and the site isn't aimed at children.

Complaints

If you think I'm handling your data wrongly, please tell me first — it's usually the fastest fix. You also have the right to complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency:

Changes to this policy

If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top is updated.
